The incident took place on Tuesday, Feb. 14 around 4:30 p.m. near the intersection of Fairfield Avenue and Broad Street.
According to Sgt. Darryl Wilson of the Bridgeport Police, police received several calls of a pedestrian being struck by a car and wasn't moving.
When officers and EMS arrived on the scene they found the woman who had sustained lower extremity trauma and a head injury. EMS began giving medical attention to the woman before transporting her to St. Vincent's Hospital for treatment, Wilson said.
A firefighter on the scene spotted a black 2018 Acura IIX on the scene, with the front windshield smashed on the passenger side. The scene was secured from all traffic, police said.
The Bridgeport Serious Crash Team was notified and responded to the location. The scene was reconstructed and the victim was identified as Alma Willis of Bridgeport, Wilson added.
The black 2018 Acura IIX, which was being driven by a 37-year-old Norwalk woman, was traveling west on Fairfield Avenue. The black Acura struck Willis attempting to cross the street near the intersection of Fairfield Avenue and Broad Street, police said.
Later in the evening, Willis died from her injuries at the hospital, Wilson said.
"The Bridgeport Police Department’s thoughts and prayers are with Alma Willis’ family and friends," he said.
